Weight-loss surgeon quits job to become yoga instructor

At age 59, Dr. James Weber gave up his career of being a weight-loss surgeon to become a yoga instructor. He feels he can help more people this way. Click on his name to read the interesting story from the Seattle Times.

See? Yoga can cure anything!

I wonder why Dr. Weber has his mouth open in virabhadrasana. I think I should write to him and tell him to shut it.

"Through your nose, man! Breath through your nose!"

hmmm, I haven't really ever done that facial mudra in vira I. Maybe I should try it.

There's a ton of stuff you can pick over: his Bob Fosse arms, right knee placement, left foot angle, yoga togs... The list goes on.

I think it's great that this Dr. has decided to help his patients in this way..When do you ever hear of a surgeon giving up his practice to teach yoga?? What a kind gesture and compassionate as well~
Thanks for posting this!

Hi Armani
That is a beautiful story, but on the practical side, he was able to retire early because his work, career and drive allowed him to. The teaching of yoga can be a hobby for him since he's taken care of his retirement.

I know an anesthesiologist who would like to become an acupuncturist. He might be able to. My post may come accross as cynical, sorry for that. I'm just trying to point out that it is possible in some careers to retire at 55 if you worked in a good field in a company that paid well and you lived frugally.

Cheers,
Arturo

The only problem? I'm one of his (now former) patients, and I didn't know he had retired...! Anyone ever heard of post-operative care for a slipped gastric banding from a YOGA instructor?! I think not. I think not.
